This design was conceived as an entry into the 2020 Creative Conscience competition, under the “Health, Wellbeing & Disability” section. Creative Conscience is a community built global platform, striving to empower and reward creative talents. Turning these talents into a force for positive social and environmental change in the global community.
This project focused on young adults aged 17 to 25, the age at which most young people enter higher education. Through my research, I discovered a correlation between this demographic and an abnormally high number of mental health cases. Further research revealed that a large portion of these issues can be contributed to “crunch time”. This refers to the time, during a student’s major assignments and or essay periods, usually correlating with the end of the semester. This crunch time can result in extreme fatigue, creating lasting mental health issues such as anxiety and insomnia.
Due to the increased stress and pressure placed on students to perform at their best during these times, students often disregard their own mental and physical health in pursuit of better grades. In order to combat this, this campaign aims to provide a brief escape from this stress and offers the students a moment of calm reflection.
This will be achieved by, installing projectors around areas on campus frequented by students during the late hours of the night, such as the library and study hall. During the end of semester crunch periods at the most prevalent time for these activities to take place, the projectors will be turned on and display calming motion graphics of paint running down the surrounding buildings. Alternatively, if this is not achievable on every campus, the campaign can still function as intended, utilising indoor displays, as seen above. These displays will be accompanied by the poster designs seen below. These posters will guide those suffering from insomnia and fatigue to the appropriate resources in order to seek help, as well as, providing links to the projection videos so that they may view them at anytime.
